New update throws helicopters out of CoD Warzone

A new update to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and CoD: Warzone playlist was released today on the night of May 5, 2020 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. This brings the promised changes, but also some that no one I expected. We look at the patch notes.

What is in the update? There are a number of changes in today’s playlist update for Modern Warfare and Battle Royale Warzone multiplayer. This is revealed by an official tweet from the developer, which lists the patch notes:

  • Loot money triplets are replaced with blood money triplets
  • Helicopters are disabled in Battle Royale
  • 3v3 Armed Battle, Ground War, and “Reinfected Ground War” from last week’s update will be removed
  • I ship 24/7 as a new playlist, replace shoot or send no matter
  • Gun Game becomes Ornate Gun Game
  • Added explosive command
  • Ground War Added on Foot

There are also new store packages, including the “Anime Express” package with pink trucks in the store. This was previously revealed in the patch preview on May 5.

There are now stylish trucks in the store.

In addition to the innovations, there is currently a bonus EP for double weapon experience points, level, and levels in the current Battle Pass. The bonus runs until May 8.

There were problems with the EXP last weekend.

Heli Ban confuses the players

How the players react: Players are excited discussing the new update. The biggest issues are gratitude for 24/7 shipping, as the mode is always well received and extremely popular, and renewed demand for a duo mode for Warzone. However, BR Duos will appear as a mode anyway in the future.

However, there is a lot of confusion on Twitter as to why developers suddenly pulled helicopters out of Battle Royale. This flight deck was already part of possible vehicles in Warzone.

Call for Duty Modern Warfare Warzone Quad
Quads still exist, but where did the helicopters go?

Why is this ban coming? Players don’t understand why helicopters had to abandon Battle Royale. Twitter user O’Summer-Bear clarifies that there was apparently a bug with the helis that allowed players to crash under the map.

To avoid failure, they had apparently been disabled for at least a short time. Other players also point out that helis, especially in solo BR, are too strong and particularly annoying.

For example, helicopters often ensure that players simply stay out of the reach of others and sit on the lap without really bothering themselves. Such behavior has already given MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus the worst lap in Warzone. We cannot yet say whether and when the helicopters will return.
