Half of the federal states registered a daily maximum of new reported cases. These are Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, and Thuringia. Ten of the 16 countries reported four-digit increases. North Rhine-Westphalia reports the highest number of new cases with 6,002, followed by Bavaria (5,222) and Baden-Württemberg (4,233). In terms of population, Saxony again has the majority of new infections with 80.2 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants. They were followed by Thuringia (60.0) and Brandenburg (48.3).

The number of deaths related to an infection recently increased from 743 to 24,615. This is the third day in a row with more than 700 deaths recently reported. The highest level so far was reached on Tuesday with 777, yesterday Wednesday 766 new deaths were reported. Around 353,700 people are currently infected.

The infection rate (R value) is given by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) as 0.82 (previous day: 0.88). This means that an average of 100 infected people infect another 82 people with Sars-CoV-2. The 7-day R-value is currently 0.97 (previous day: 0.98). According to the Divi Register, 4,856 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in intensive care in Germany, 2,774 of whom are ventilated. Around 4,650 intensive care beds are still available in German clinics.

Note: RKI figures generally deviate slightly from the case data that ntv.de daily reports at night. The data team at ntv.de has direct access to the federal state registration figures published by the ministries and local authorities. The RKI, on the other hand, is subject to legally prescribed reporting channels, which can lead to a delay.

In addition, the respective daily values map different recording periods: the ntv assessment collects the country information published at night and uses it to calculate a daily status of the number of reported cases, which is generally published as of 8 pm The RKI’s recording system, on the other hand, takes into account incoming reports until midnight, and the current status of the data is announced the next morning.
