Total chaos at the Grand Prix of Tuscany: Immediately after the start there was a spectacular accident. Max Verstappen is unable to continue the Formula 1 debut race at Mugello. After a second wild fall, the race stops and restarts.
UPDATE 4:54 pm .: After a heavy hit from Lance Stroll, the race is interrupted for the second time. The remaining drivers gather in the pit lane and wait. Ride appears unscathed, while the racers try to regain Racing-Point-Boliden.
On the turbulent first lap of the Tuscan Grand Prix at Mugello, Max Verstappen, third in the World Championship at Red Bull, and sensational Monza winner Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri, have already retired after a collision. The Dutchman, apparently having technical problems and traveling very slowly, was hit by Romain Grosjean and landed on the gravel.
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel slipped down from 14th on the grid at the end of the field, couldn’t avoid Carlos Sainz’s McLaren and found himself 18th after a necessary front wing change. Pole Lewis Hamilton lost the lead to his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas at the start. Vettel’s teammate Charles Leclerc came in third.
On the seventh lap, immediately after the end of the first safety car phase, there was another wild accident. Several cars collided with each other at the start and on the final stretch. At the front, Valtteri Bottas drove very slow on the restart, resulting in an accordion effect at the rear. Nicholas Latifi, Kevin Magnussen, Antonio Giovinazzi and Carlos Sainz participated. The race was stopped after the accident and restarted at 3:55 pm

The Vettel who was driving to the end of the field was able to avoid the second crash. Grosjean, who was also driving behind and was not involved in the accident, complained on the pit radio. “Whoever was up there was the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Are they going to kill us or what?” However, according to initial findings, none of the drivers were injured.
Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz has commented on the crash: “I’m fine, like the others,” said the Spaniard. “That’s the main thing. The others probably thought the restart had already taken place and then all of a sudden they hit the brakes. I was already fully accelerated again and couldn’t avoid it. Not a great feeling when you’re traveling 280 km / h and suddenly shoot another car. That could have turned out differently. “
