The Robert Koch Institute reports 410 coronavirus-related deaths in 24 hours, a new record for Germany. The number of new infections has also increased compared to the previous week to 18,633.

In Germany, health authorities informed the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) of 410 new coronavirus-related deaths in 24 hours. A new record has thus been reached. The total number of deaths rose to 14,771.

The highest level to date was reached in mid-April with 315 deaths reported in one day. The number of new corona infections reported in 24 hours was provided by the RKI at 18,633. That was a good 1,000 cases more than a week ago, according to information from the institute.

On Friday, a peak of 23,648 reported cases was reached. The RKI has counted a total of 961,320 infections detected with the coronavirus in Germany since the start of the pandemic. The RKI estimates that around 656,400 people have recovered.

Federal and state governments discuss “Corona winter calendar”

According to RKI’s management report on Tuesday night, the so-called seven-day R was 0.97 (previous day: 0.97). This means that 100 infected people infect almost 100 more people. The value represents the onset of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

Today, the federal and state governments want to advise on how to proceed in the corona pandemic and decide on a “Corona winter calendar.” Among other things, the discussion is about extending the partial lock and adjusting the mask requirement. Furthermore, the strict contact restrictions for the period December 23 to January 1 will apparently be relaxed.
