New Coronavirus Variant: What Researchers Know So Far

[ad_1]

WA worldwide search is currently underway for the new variant of the coronavirus, which has led to severe restrictions, flight bans and border closures in Britain and Europe. Virologist Jörg Timm from Düsseldorf University Hospital has also looked for clues about the variant in the data from his corona patients.

WORLD: He looked for the new virus in the data of corona patients. Did you find something?

Jörg Timm: No. But, like many of my colleagues, I assume that variant B.1.1.7 has been in Germany for a long time. The variant has now also been detected in a patient from Baden-Württemberg who was apparently infected in Britain and who came with the infection. There will certainly be more of these that we don’t know about yet.

WORLD: If the virus is already here, weren’t the border closures and tough measures in the UK excessive?
