After lengthy negotiations, the country agrees to stricter corona rules for potential corona hotspots. The peak meeting had to be interrupted due to a crown case at the state chancery.

The Schwerin state government is strengthening measures to address potential corona risk areas in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. If regions become hot spots in the crown, there will be a restaurant curfew and extensive contact restrictions. The state government has agreed on this with the municipalities and associations after lengthy negotiations. On Tuesday evening, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Lorenz Caffier and Health Minister Harry Glawe (both CDU) reported on the results.

When the traffic light in Corona is “red”

If there are more than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in a district or in the two independent cities of Schwerin and Rostock in the last seven days, the crown traffic light will also change to “red” in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the future: according to the new ordinance applies a mask requirement also in public places, for example in crowded places, in shopping malls and in the weekly market. A maximum of ten people is allowed to meet in restaurants. In private, there are stricter contact restrictions, only ten people from two different households can meet within their own four walls.

Closing time is now possible

Restaurants have to close at 11 pm, from then on gas stations can no longer sell alcohol. Events, whether internal or external, are only possible in a risk area with a maximum of 100 participants. According to Caffier, this also applies to sporting events. With a hygiene concept in consultation with the health department, more can also be done. Fall and Christmas markets are canceled. In secondary schools, the mask requirement is also verified in class, so it is not mandatory. The closure of nurseries and schools at Corona access points is also not planned.

When the traffic light in Corona is “Orange”

With the restrictions, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is largely embracing the cornerstones that the federal government and states agreed to last week after a tough fight. According to the new Corona Ordinance, measures are also foreseen if the number of Corona cases registered per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days exceeds 35, that is, if the traffic light is “orange”.

In restaurants, meetings with friends and family will be limited to 25 participants. A maximum of 15 people is allowed to gather on its own four walls. Even if the crown traffic light is changed to “orange”, a general mask requirement should apply in crowded places or in weekly markets. A maximum of 200 visitors can come to the indoor events; the 500 limit applies outdoors. The curfew in restaurants is brought forward one hour to 1 am

The Bundeswehr should help more

The affected districts still have the right to toughen the measures. You can also restrict the rules to certain locations based on the infection situation. The country also relies on closer cooperation with the Bundeswehr in following up on contacts. The Bundeswehr is always a trusted and proven partner, they say. Health Minister Glawe said the chains of infection need to be further determined.

Accommodation ban: “The sentence is recognized”

The state government has also announced a reaction to the ruling of the Higher Administrative Court on the accommodation ban. The decision will be accepted, Caffier said. The judges in Greifswald had admitted the restrictive regulations for vacationers from risky areas and thus legally put the state government in place. The cabinet had only announced last Saturday that the country would in the future waive the two-week quarantine requirement for guests at these corona hotspots. In the future, they would just have to bring a negative corona test with them, he said on Saturday.

But the judges also overturned that after a complaint from two hoteliers. It is incomprehensible why vacationers from risky areas have to bring this proof with them: travelers, schoolchildren, students and others for whom the country has established exceptions, but has not. This means that the restrictions for vacationers are completely off the table for now.

New regulations for daytime tourists announced

Health Minister Glawe said: “This trial will be recognized. We will make sure that everyone from the Federal Republic of Germany can enter, without proof.” However, it is important that in the future, guests when entering hotels and pensions declare that they are healthy and have no symptoms. Glawe also announced a new regulation for daytime tourists from risk areas. So far they are not allowed to enter the country. Looking forward to the current court decision, Glawe said improvements would be made.

Corona case at the State Chancellery

Meanwhile, the crown summit was due to a crown case at the state chancery. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) interrupted the round shortly after noon, as a pure precaution, as she said. An employee at his government headquarters had tested positive for the corona virus. A total of six people from the state chancellery had contact with him, among them a senior official close to the head of government. According to a government spokesperson, Schwesig had no contact with the infected person, but with a total of three people from his work environment, one of whom was at the Corona summit for a short time in the morning.

Schwesig, according to a spokesman, continued his work voluntarily from home; Caffier took over, who continued the round by way of a conference call. The infected person had previously been on vacation in Berchtesgadener Land in Bavaria. There is a lockdown for the region due to high crown numbers. At the time of the return, the region was not yet a corona hotspot, it is said.
