More new corona infections have been recorded in Hamburg than ever since the outbreak of the pandemic. The health department reported 276 new cases Thursday.
The previous record was reported on March 24 with 248 corona infections. There was also a record value nationwide. According to the Robert Koch Institute, health authorities reported 11,287 cases in the 24 hours of Thursday morning.
The incidence is now 64.6
The number of new Hamburg infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a week, which had already passed the critical value of 50 on Monday, is now 64.6. The RKI awarded this legally relevant value for Hamburg on Thursday as 46.5. According to the health authority, the deviation is mainly due to a delay in data collection.
Extraordinary session of the Senate on Friday
In view of the increasing number of corona cases, the Senate is planning a special session for Friday, according to information from NDR 90.3. It should be about more restrictions. One of the rules that the federal and state governments have agreed to for regions with a high number of infections is that only ten people can meet in public spaces. For celebrations in private rooms, a maximum of ten people from a maximum of two households must be allowed to gather. In Hamburg there are currently a maximum of 25 people in public spaces and 15 in private spaces. It doesn’t matter how many households they come from.
The Senate also has to decide whether to cancel the winter cathedral in Heiligengeistfeld, which should start in a good two weeks. Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) had already said that he hardly saw opportunities for the folk festival. Several CDU politicians campaigned for the cathedral not to be canceled.
Hamburg had tightened its regulation just the week before. The curfew between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. has been in effect in restaurants since Saturday. High school and vocational students have had to wear masks in class since Monday.
More people in the hospital
Currently, 79 corona patients are being treated in hospitals in Hamburg, seven more than the previous day. The number of infected people in intensive care units has risen from 2 to 27. According to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Eppendorf University Hospital, 241 people have died from the Covid 19 disease. This number has not changed since 2 October.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 10,682 people in Hamburg have been infected with Sars-CoV-2. According to RKI estimates, around 8,000 of them can now be considered recovered.
