A new variant of Corona appears in South Africa
The spread of a mutated form of the coronavirus in southern England is creating uncertainty about whether the vaccine will also help against the new variant. Meanwhile, South African researchers are discovering another mutation in the Sars-CoV-2 virus.
A new variant of the Sars-CoV-2 virus is circulating in South Africa. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a television speech that the variant, initially called 501.V2, was discovered during genetic testing of samples from different provinces. So far, it is not clear if the appearance of the new variant will affect future vaccinations. However, previous government strategies should not be changed.
So far, 892,813 corona cases have been confirmed in South Africa and more than 24,000 people have died in relation to Covid 19 disease. British authorities recently informed the World Health Organization (WHO) of a new variant of the coronavirus found in the United Kingdom.
