Oberhausen: man stabs people
In an apartment building in Oberhausen, a man wounds several people with a stabbing weapon; at least one of them is life-threatening. Authorities suspect a family history.
A man wounded four people with a stabbing weapon in an apartment building in Oberhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia; at least one of them was in mortal danger. Authorities assume family history, as a police spokesman said. Some of the victims of Thursday night’s attack were to receive intensive care in hospitals. The alleged perpetrator was detained overnight and, also wounded, was taken to a hospital.
There is no indication of a history of terrorism or other perpetrators, the police spokesman said. Initially, no information was available on the identity of the alleged perpetrator and the victim. Based on the suspected family history of the crime, it can be assumed that the alleged perpetrator and the victim knew each other. The spokesperson could not definitively confirm an acquaintance.
According to the information, the incident occurred in an apartment building in the Marienviertel district. Around 7 pm, several emergency calls were made from direct neighbors of the house. The police operation ended at around 11:42 pm It was not clear at first whether the police had previously warned the alleged perpetrator. The “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” had previously reported on the crime.
On Friday night, many other questions were still open, for example the question of what motive the man had for his act and what scenes took place in the house that night. The investigation also looked at what type of weapon the man used in his attack. There was also no new information on the health of the victims.
