More than half a million deaths from corona in the US

The pandemic has claimed more American casualties than World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War combined. The president of the United States, Joe Biden, lamented the victims in front of the White House.

US President Joe Biden has urgently warned against blunting in view of the high death toll per crown. “We have to fight against becoming deaf to suffering. We have to fight against seeing each life as a statistic,” Biden demanded Monday night (local time) in a speech at the White House. “We have to do this to honor the dead. Just as important is caring for the living, those who have been left behind,” Biden said. Each corona death had family, friends, and an “extraordinary life” that ended too soon.

The United States surpassed the threshold of more than half a million deaths per corona on Monday. “That means that more Americans died in a single year from this pandemic than in World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War combined,” Biden said.

Following the speech, Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff honored the victims with a minute of silence on the south side of the White House, where numerous candles were lit. They bowed their heads and soon after a military band played the song “Amazing Grace.”

No country has more deaths per crown than the US.

Biden had previously ordered the American flags to be lowered to half mast. This applies for five days in public buildings, military bases, and all US government diplomatic missions abroad.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, US authorities had reported 500,159 deaths after infection with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen on Monday night. In absolute numbers, there are no other countries in the world that have so many confirmed corona deaths.
