More than 13,000 new corona infections in Germany

Germany’s health authorities have reported fewer new cases of corona compared to last week. However, the value has stabilized at a high level.

Unsurprisingly, relatively few new corona infections have been reported back to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) by health authorities. 13,554 new cases were transmitted in 24 hours, as announced by the RKI on Tuesday morning. Last Tuesday the figure was 14,419. On Friday, a peak of 23,648 reported cases was reached. At the beginning of the week, the numbers are usually comparatively low because according to the RKI, fewer samples are taken on the weekends and therefore less testing is done overall.

In October and early November, the number of new corona infections reported in Germany increased rapidly. The value has now stabilized at a high level for about two weeks. The decline that was expected after the entry into force of the partial lockdown has not yet been clearly noticeable.

The R-value decreased even more

Since the start of the pandemic, the RKI has counted a total of 942,687 infections detected with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany (as of November 24, 00:00). The number of deaths related to the virus increased by 249 through Tuesday to a total of 14,361. The RKI estimates that around 636,700 people have recovered.

According to RKI’s management report on Monday, the so-called seven-day R was 0.97 (previous day: 1.03). This means that, on average, each person who is infected with SARS-CoV-2 infects almost one other person. The value represents the appearance of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
