meIn Germany, more than 10,000 people have died as a result of a Covid 19 infection since the start of the corona pandemic. As announced by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) early Saturday, citing information from health authorities, a total of 10,003 deaths had been recorded as of Friday. The number was 49 deaths higher than the number announced by the RKI on Friday night.
A new record was also reached for the number of new coronavirus infections recorded daily. According to the RKI, the number of registered contagion cases increased by 14,714 compared to the previous day. However, this number includes infections that had not been recorded the day before due to a technical glitch when the data was transmitted. On Thursday and Friday, the RKI announced daily new registered infections of more than 11,000 cases each, these were the previous highs since the beginning of the pandemic. Without the technical fault, the institute would have determined an even higher value on Friday, and the number published on Saturday would have been lower.
The total number of registered cases of coronavirus infection in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic was given by the RKI on Saturday as 418,005. The number of people recovered was reportedly around 310,200. The RKI on Thursday classified the situation of the crown in Germany as “very serious”.
New restrictions and protests in other European countries
The worsening situation in the corona pandemic has led to new restrictions on daily life in several European countries. The curfew has been in effect in France in 54 departments and the French overseas territory of French Polynesia since Saturday. This means that 46 million people, or two-thirds of the population of France, are now affected by the anti-crown measure.
Since midnight, entry from Germany into Denmark has only been allowed for a valid reason. And in Latvia, only a maximum of ten people can gather for events in the halls. Meanwhile, there were protests in Italy.
In the southern Italian metropolis of Naples, hundreds of people took to the streets on Saturday night against the curfew and planned closure for the Campania region. The protesters chanted slogans and, among other things, moved in front of the regional government headquarters. They launched fireworks and detonated smoke bombs, according to the Ansa news agency. The police used tear gas against the protesters, among other things.
Regional President Vincenzo De Luca had previously announced plans for a lockdown in response to the rapidly growing number of corona infections. In Campania, 2,280 new infections were reported in one day on Friday, as De Luca announced live on Facebook. Thursday was 1541. The curfew from 11 pm to 5 am has been in effect since Friday.
