Mobilization across national borders
The “Querdenker” show is popular in Poland

In Frankfurt (Oder) more than a thousand “lateral thinkers” demonstrate against the measures of the Crown. Including many people from neighboring Poland. Many participants ignore the mask and distance requirements. However, the organizers emphasize that they want nothing to do with extremism.

Around 1,500 opponents of the German and Polish Crown restrictions demonstrated in Frankfurt (Oder) on Saturday. Duisburg’s “lateral thinking” initiative called for proof. “Peace” and “Freedom” were shouted in German and Polish. Hundreds of people came to Frankfurt (Oder) from Slubice on the Polish side, some waving Polish flags. The founder of “lateral thinking”, Michael Ballweg from Stuttgart, who was invited as a speaker, turned against extremism. “We are a peaceful movement in which extremism, violence, anti-Semitism and inhumane ideas have no place,” he said.

Federal and state authorities for the protection of the constitution are taking a closer look at the events of the “lateral thinking” movement after extremists had appeared there several times recently. The organizers and the police asked people to keep a minimum distance and wear masks. Not all participants in the ‘lateral thinking’ demonstration were attached to it.

The organizers asked them to respect the rules, otherwise the police would interrupt the demonstration and check. Police called the loudspeakers and via Twitter, in German and Polish, to comply with Corona’s requirements. They expanded the demonstration area on the Oder promenade so that a greater distance was possible. The “lateral thinking” initiative calls into question the restrictions of the crown due to a national epidemic situation and speaks of restrictions on fundamental rights. For example, on a cardboard cutout in Frankfurt (Oder) it said “Voodoo Virus Wahn”, on a poster “If you sleep in the Crown crisis, you wake up under the dictatorship!” One participant wore a yellow protective suit and a sign that read “Total Hygiene” in Gothic script.

According to the police, about 150 people attended a counter-demonstration. Also, the alliance “There is no place for the Nazis in Frankfurt (Oder)” under the motto “Masked ball instead of crown deniers!” called. The activists on Facebook called for solidarity with risk groups and hospital employees and asked people to support Corona’s measures. “We say no! To scare off tactics, false claims, cruelty and conspiracy myths,” they wrote there.
