Missing Düsseldorf Resident Found Dead in Fehmarn

Jan A. from Düsseldorf, who had disappeared in Fehmarn last Friday, is dead. The Lübeck prosecutor’s office and the Lübeck police department announced in a joint press release late Tuesday that the 28-year-old was found dead in the area of ​​a multi-story house on the Baltic Sea island.

To clarify the circumstances in which the young man died, the Lübeck prosecutor has requested an autopsy. The body was taken to the Lübeck forensic medicine department.

The Lübeck prosecutor’s office and the Oldenburg Criminal Police Office (KPSt) in Holstein are responsible for investigating the deaths. Family members were notified and a pastor provided assistance.

Jan A. was last seen on Friday around 5.30 pm on the Baltic Sea island. Police had initially spoken of a man from North Rhine-Westphalia in a search report, then confirmed upon request that the missing person was from Düsseldorf.

At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a dark hoodie and sweatpants, but had not worn shoes.

A police spokesperson told our editorial team Monday afternoon that the search would continue. You have a “very vague reference” to the missing person, but you have to investigate that first. Troops were on the island all weekend to search for the missing person.

In addition to several volunteer fire brigades and the criminal police, dog handlers with specially trained search dogs were on site. Jan A.’s friends from Düsseldorf, some of whom had organized on Facebook through Nett-Werk Düsseldorf, also helped with the search on the island.

Police wanted to expand the search for the 28-year-old, who was on vacation in Fehmarn, to the mainland. On Tuesday, Jan A. was found dead on the island.
