Söder justifies bringing forward the Christmas holidays

After NRW, Bavaria also prefers the start of the Christmas holidays. This should reduce the risk of infection. Prime Minister Markus Söder explains why it is necessary to extend the partial blockade and tighten the measures.

The Christmas holidays will be brought forward nationwide. There should also be new guidelines for retail and school operations, which the federal and state governments want to adopt tomorrow. Initially, the Chancellery had even broader plans.

reThe federal government wants to complement the federal states’ proposals for new crown rules in consultations with prime ministers on Wednesday. This stems from a document with amendments proposed by the federal government on Tuesday night, which was presented to the German Press Agency in Berlin. On Wednesday, the prime ministers of the federal states discussed with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) how to proceed in the Corona crisis.

According to the draft, which is based on the role of the countries, it is said that the population should be summoned to do their Christmas shopping during the week if possible. You must ensure that there is no more than one customer for every 25 square meters of sales area in stores. Until now, there can be no more than one customer for every 10 square meters of sales area. The gastronomy remains closed.

As already mentioned in a draft resolution of the federal states, the Christmas holidays must be brought forward to December 19 throughout Germany. In an earlier version, with which the Foreign Ministry had consulted with the federal states on Tuesday, there was talk of bringing the Christmas holidays forward to December 16 throughout Germany.

At special infection hotspots, more measures will be implemented for school lessons from the seventh grade, depending on the school, which also guarantee minimum intervals in the lessons, for example hybrid lessons, as the draft says. The approach of the students in the morning should be straightened out as much as possible.

According to this draft, rail traffic should offer a reliable service with the possibility of excessive distance to travelers who have to travel despite restrictions. The mask controls on the train need to be stepped up in order to control many more long-distance trains every day. Deutsche Bahn should take additional measures on long-distance traffic, he said. Seating capacity must be significantly increased to allow even more distance between travelers. The ability to reserve seats will be limited in parallel.

The decisive consultations with the prime ministers of the federal states will begin on Wednesday at 2 pm A preliminary meeting of the prime ministers is scheduled for 10.30 a. M. Based on this information, it is not clear whether the Union and the SPD countries will consult each other separately beforehand.

Markus Söder (CSU) is also calling on the federal and state governments to toughen up previous state proposals before the crown’s consultations. The Bavarian prime minister said Tuesday on the sidelines of a meeting of the state parliament in Munich that some points still need to be refined and supplemented.

The chancellor announced that she would reconnect with the prime minister on December 14 or 15 to assess where the infection situation would be.

Editor’s note: In an earlier version of the article, WELT reported, citing the dpa news agency, that the aforementioned adjustment was already an updated version of the country’s daily. That is not the case. The measures are a federal proposal to be negotiated with the federal states on Wednesday. Excuse the mistake.
