He doesn’t have “that good feeling” given the current situation. “It can’t go on like this.”
Over the weekend, Merkel again asked the population to refrain from traveling and making contacts. “The order of the day for all of us is: reduce contacts. Get to know a lot less people,” he said in his video podcast released Saturday. The pandemic situation has worsened in a week, says Merkel. Now there are many more places with such a high number of infections that health authorities can no longer follow up on contacts.
Laschet: “Limit contacts to two to three weeks”
In the ARD shows Anne Will North Rhine-Westphalia Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) also expressed concern: He spoke of the fact that “we have very difficult weeks ahead”. The number of infections is too high, also with a view to neighboring countries. He is following events there with concern. Despite harsh blockades, the numbers rose enormously in Spain and Belgium, for example. He appealed to the population “to limit contacts for two or three weeks.” People’s behavior has to change.
With a view to closing schools and daycare centers again, Laschet said: “We are doing everything we can to prevent this from happening.” Spring showed that these should be left as intact as possible.
