An EU summit was planned for November in Berlin. It has now been canceled due to the increase in corona cases in the capital. China’s current policy should be discussed at the meeting.

The European Union has canceled its November summit in Berlin on China’s policy in light of the dramatic increase in the number of corona infections. “In terms of contacts, I think this is a necessary message,” Chancellor Angela Merkel said in Brussels on Friday.

Special Summit on China Politics

The heads of state and government of the European Union wanted to meet on November 16 for a special summit on Chinese politics in Berlin. The date was only decided at the last EU summit in early October.

An EU-China summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping was originally planned in Leipzig in September. However, it was canceled a long time ago due to the corona pandemic. Instead, there was only one video conference between Merkel (CDU) and EU leaders with the Chinese president.
