Maximum of 25 guests: the federal government suggests an upper limit for private parties

The federal government apparently wants to enforce stricter rules for private celebrations with the states at the Corona summit. Consequently, only 25 people should be allowed to gather. 50 guests must be allowed in public rooms.

In light of the continuing high number of coronavirus infections, the federal government is proposing a restriction to a maximum of 25 participants for celebrations in private rooms. In public spaces, the limit must be 50 participants maximum.

This stems from a draft for the federal government’s draft resolution on Chancellor Angela Merkel’s (CDU) deliberations with the Prime Minister’s Conference on Tuesday. The letter is available for the dpa news agency. First, the newspaper “Bild” reported on the figures.

Fines for false information

The document also says that in view of the number of infections, no further opening steps should currently be allowed. To allow correct follow-up of contacts, regulatory authorities must be able to prove wrongful personal information violations in restaurants with a minimum fine of 50 euros. The draft also establishes that if the number of infections in the restaurant sector increases, “a limited-time ban on serving alcohol should be issued.”

It is not clear whether the maximum amounts mentioned should only apply to private parts if certain limit values are exceeded for new infections. The draft says in brackets that the federal states would enact regulations on the number of participants in festivals if the number of 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a district is exceeded in seven days. This means that the critical number of new infections for this regulation has yet to be negotiated at the conference.

Possibility of additional tightening

According to the draft, it is still possible for a state or municipality to set lower values. Exceptions may be made for celebrations announced with hygiene plans approved by the health department. If more than 50 people per 100,000 inhabitants are infected in a district within 7 days, further action will be taken, the document continues.

In particular, the number of participants should be further limited, according to the ideas of the federal government, to a maximum of 10 participants in private rooms and a maximum of 25 participants in public rooms.
