Throughout Schleswig-Holstein, extended rules for the use of oral and nasal protection will apply from tomorrow, for example for the weekly markets. And: face shields are no longer enough.

The recommendation of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is new, the state government in Schleswig-Holstein is implementing it immediately: as of tomorrow (October 24), face masks will no longer be able to be worn, only with a mask underneath. To the current state of knowledge, these plastic visors are not an equivalent alternative to mouth and nose caps because the visor “does not prevent the spread of aerosols in a comparable way.” An exception applies to teaching staff in universities and schools, for example: teachers can continue to wear face masks in class so that students can recognize facial expressions. People who are generally exempt from wearing a face-to-face mask can voluntarily continue to wear visors. This applies to people with disabilities, for example.

Weekly Markets: Marketers Must Wear a Mask

The so-called Anti-Crown Ordinance also regulates the new regulation that market feeders, that is, sales personnel, must also wear masks in weekly markets starting on Saturday. This obligation continues to apply in restaurants, in areas open to the public both inside and outside of closed rooms. Guests and employees must wear mouth and nose protection. Guests can only remove masks in fixed standing and sitting areas.

Exceptions for tellers

In the case of retail trade, the wording of the ordinance is as follows: For employees at points of sale and distribution in retail trade, at closed sales stands and in covered traffic areas of shopping centers where areas open to the public, the use of a face-to-face mask is mandatory. Employees are exempt if virus transmission is reduced by equally adequate physical barriers. Supermarket checkout staff do not have to wear a mask if, for example, large panels of acrylic glass are placed.

Young children continue to be exempt from the mask requirement

Children up to six years of age and people who are unable to wear a nose and mouth cover due to a physical, mental or psychological impairment and who can make this plausible, for example by means of a certificate or a disability identification card serious, are also exempt from the mask requirement. People with hearing or speech disabilities can also remove the cover from their mouth and nose if necessary to communicate with others.
