Mask distribution in Dresden: people stick together

Thousands of Dresden residents queued for a free protective mask in front of the Dresden City Hall on Monday morning. Citizens lined up for several hundred meters to the Golden Gate, where, according to the city, around 20,000 cloth covers for the mouth and nose were distributed in black or white. The long tails can be seen in images, occasionally it seems that the minimum distance of 1.5 to 2 meters prescribed in the measures against the spread of the coronavirus has not been observed. People are clearly recognizable close to each other.

One mask per person was issued; another was allowed for family members. Mayor Dirk Hilbert (FDP) ordered a total of around 200,000 masks, to be distributed to city residents in the coming days. The protection of the mouth and nose comes from the production of the Dresden companies.

Since Monday, Saxony has had to wear mouth and nose protection when shopping, on buses and trains. The Free State was the first federal state with such regulation.
