The latest version of the Corona app has just learned to warn across borders of a potentially risky encounter with corona-infected people. At least with the Irish and Italian warning app this should already work. But Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder has not stopped even such small advances from making a negative judgment on previous experiences with the digital virus monitor. You think the app is practically ineffective so far.
“Unfortunately, the app has so far been a toothless tiger. It has almost no warning effect,” the CSU chief told the newspapers of the Funke media group (Tuesday). Therefore, a digital update is needed to exhaust all the possibilities for the Corona application to be effective ”. What exactly this update should look like, Söder left open.
The German app has been downloaded around 19.8 million times. Experts assume that the app is actively used by more than 16 million people in Germany.
According to a report from the news portal “ThePioneer”, almost 500 people infected with corona are using the warning application to inform other people of their own positive results every day. This corresponds to 13 to 14 percent of the total number of newly infected. “The application has been well received. Every chain of infection that is further interrupted by this is important,” said Gottfried Ludewig, head of the digital department of the Federal Ministry of Health, reaching a different conclusion than the Bavarian prime minister.
Symptoms of the disease should also be included in the app.
It was recently announced that the app would be expanded to include additional features. As SPIEGEL reports in its current issue, with the next update it will also be possible to indicate in the application when an infection is reported if you have had symptoms of the disease and since when.
To make the application more attractive, the Federal Ministry of Health is considering other functions. Statistics on the current spread of the coronavirus could be displayed on the app, for example numbers on new infections in individual federal states, regions and cities. Exactly how the function might look is still under examination, according to the ministry.
