It was just a phone call, just a conversation that finally made the difference for Germany’s World Cup hero Mario Götze to move to Eindhoven. About eight weeks ago, PSV coach Roger Schmidt called Götze for the first time after the information from Sportschau. Schmidt showed his interest and showed the 28-year-old possible prospects at the Eredivisie club. If the desire for football is at the top of your list, it will be welcomed in Eindhoven, Schmidt Götze said accordingly. Apparently it hit the right spot.

Last minute decision

Shortly before the transfer window closed in the Netherlands, the former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich pro signed a contract in Eindhoven. A big surprise: Götze could have won much more in other leagues.

For a long time, the Europa League participants no longer believed in actually being able to sign Götze. After the first conversation with Schmidt, there was no contact until the decisive call last Tuesday (October 6, 2020). Then everything happened very quickly: the deal was completed within five hours after Götze finally sent the signals to move to Holland.
