Investigators in Argentina accused the personal physician of the late soccer legend Diego Maradona of negligent homicide. The practice of Leopoldo Luque was recorded in the Buenos Aires capital and his house in a suburb, according to Argentine media, citing sources from the judiciary.

The search warrant was requested by prosecutors in San Isidro, a wealthy Buenos Aires suburb, and signed by a local judge, prosecutors said in a statement.

It is being investigated whether there has been any irregularity in the treatment of Maradona at his home in a guarded residential area north of Buenos Aires in the last two weeks of his life. The 1986 world champion was supposed to recover there after neurosurgeon Luque and other doctors operated on him for a blood clot in the brain.

Maradona’s lawyer calls for a full investigation

“Based on the evidence gathered, it was deemed necessary to search the home and office of Dr. Leopoldo Luque to apply,” the prosecutor said in the statement. It is not currently known what evidence was involved.

Maradona’s attorney, Matías Moria, said Thursday that he would request a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the soccer legend’s death. He also criticized the slow reaction of the emergency service in his opinion. “The ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive. That was criminal idiocy, ”Moria wrote on Twitter.
