Altstadt – A family outing from Salzburger Land turned into a real horror trip on Monday night. In front of the parents’ eyes, a stranger grabbed their eleven-year-old son and dragged him into the lane, right in front of a turning BMW.

The parents (38 and 36) wanted to see Munich’s old town together with their nine and eleven year old children, as well as their little sister and a friend of the children. Shortly after 7pm, the hikers stopped at the Hochbrückenstraße at the confluence with the valley. Suddenly a strange man appeared who grabbed the eleven-year-old boy and, before the parents could intervene, jumped onto the road with the boy.

Old town: man jumps with child in front of car

At around the same time, a 29-year-old from Munich was driving down the Hochbrückenstrasse in her BMW 1 Series. She wanted to turn left into the valley. Fortunately, the Munich resident had significantly reduced her speed due to traffic. Thus, the driver was able to react at the last minute and avoid a collision with an emergency stop. According to police, the 35-year-old and the boy fell into the intersection area directly in front of the BMW.

Witnesses arrested the man and alerted the police. When patrol officers tried to arrest the 35-year-old, he resisted with his hands and feet. A police officer was so badly injured in the knee that he had to be treated at a clinic and is temporarily unfit for duty, said police spokesman Sven Müller.

The 35-year-old looked confused. It is not yet clear why he grabbed the boy and deliberately jumped in front of a car with him. As a homicide attempt could not initially be ruled out, the homicide squad went on fire. Meanwhile, the K 24 police station is only investigating the Munich man for dangerous bodily harm.

The suspect is under psychiatric investigation

The eleven-year-old boy suffered scratches and bruises when he fell in front of the car. Initially, he and his family were cared for in the old town. Since then, the parents have returned to Austria with the children.

Since then, the 35-year-old has undergone a psychiatric examination. The result depends on whether you are detained or admitted to a clinic. Most recently, he lived in a homeless shelter where he set off a fire alarm last Friday for no reason. He is already known to the police for drug-related crimes.
