A man died of serious injuries in the fire of a residential building in Neustrelitz.

A severely injured tenant died after the fire and explosion in an apartment building in the center of Neustrelitz. According to the police, the 55-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at a special clinic in Berlin. On Friday afternoon there was an explosion in the man’s apartment.

Tenants removed from the apartment by police officers

This caused the apartment to catch fire. All other residents were unharmed. They got replacement apartments from the owner. When the fire broke out, the 55-year-old man is said to have been alone in the apartment, according to police. He was found dumped and dragged out of the house by police, he said.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear. One of the fire investigator’s causes is to investigate the devastated apartment on Monday. The damages are estimated at more than 100,000 euros. Meanwhile, the development of smoke in the city center of Neustrelitz was so strong that residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed.

The trail of man leads to Alt Rehse

According to the police, the deceased is the man who was sentenced after the death of a woman in Alt Rehse, near Neubrandenburg. With his death, a year-long legal dispute ends over the death of the woman who was found dead in 2016 in the home of the man who was then living in Alt Rehse. Therefore, he was in various trials before the Neubrandenburg district court until June 2020. He was recently convicted of assault and attempted coercion on June 19 in an appeal trial. However, the sentence was not yet final and both parties appealed in late June.

Tied to bed and whipped

Police found the man’s partner dead in the house in 2016. The 32-year-old man had moved to him from Rhineland-Palatinate. The man was in a life crisis at the time, he said in court. The wife with whom he ran an inn was gone. There were professional problems and discussions with the village community. The 32-year-old was tied to a bed by him and flogged during an “interrogation” because she had hidden objects and was “attacked by the BND and the town’s population.” As a result, the woman died, according to a coroner, because she was unable to eat or drink. Police officers discovered the body by chance weeks later, after being alerted to a disturbance of public order.

First sentenced to prison, then to a fine

The man was initially sentenced to five years in prison for deprivation of liberty and bodily injury resulting in death. He appealed against this. In the next process, the prosecution again wanted a longer prison term, but the district court only fined the man 1,350 euros (90 daily rates of 15 euros each) for assault and attempted coercion. The sentence will no longer be reviewed despite the appeal.
