Half a dozen police cars are parked in the Schöneberger Goebenstrasse area. The area where there was a shooting Monday afternoon is cordoned off with a tape recorder. Out of a larger group of people, one or more perpetrators shot a 24-year-old man multiple times.
According to police, an argument broke out in a backyard. A patrol made up of agents from the local section noticed the shots near the crime scene at around 5.30 pm.
The victim is seriously injured but is not in danger of death. Authorities found the man on the sidewalk on Goebenstrasse, near Kulmer Strasse. The alarmed rescuers took the victim to a hospital in a helicopter.
The shots were originally said to have hit the man in the upper body. In the evening, the Berlin Prosecutor’s Office published the results of the investigation that the man did not suffer gunshot wounds. It is said to be a head injury. Where this is coming from is still being investigated, a police spokesman said late at night.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the cause of the dispute was a dispute between two acquaintances.
Police arrested a man that night. At the time, it was not clear whether he was the alleged perpetrator.
According to information from Tagesspiegel, officials found a machete in a nearby bush, which one of the participants may have with him. The “Morgenpost” writes that another weapon is said to have been seized, but this could not be confirmed overnight.
Police know the identity of the victim from previous crimes, but officers did not want to say anything about the history of the crime for now. Forensics were on the scene at night, a homicide commission took over the investigation. Officials scanned the streets with flashlights late at night.
When the shots were fired, some 200 meters from the crime scene, the young people demonstrated against the evacuation of the “Potse” youth center on Potsdamer Strasse.
In the early afternoon, the police recommended that the cordoned off area between Potsdamer Strasse and Kulmer Strasse, near the Yorckstrasse S-Bahn (city rail) station, be avoided. At around 10:45 PM, Goebenstrasse was free again in the direction of Kreuzberg, but not yet in the direction of Schöneberg. (with dpa)
