It was a routine date. On Monday morning, officers removed Christian B. from his cell in Kiel prison, where he is currently serving a prison sentence for drug trafficking. From Kiel there was a hearing on the criminal execution room in Braunschweig. Because the 43-year-old suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, who went missing in 2007, had requested his early release.

In a demonstration cell, according to the statements of the officers involved, there should have been an argument with the two law enforcement officers. According to information from SPIEGEL, Christian B. is said to have resisted when officials tried to put shackles on his ankles. Then there was a fight, in which Christian B. felt unhappy or fell. According to initial findings, officials did not use a baton in the fray, it is said internally.

Following the physical confrontation, the sex offender with multiple convictions complained of chest pain and was taken to hospital. There were two broken ribs in Christian B. The hearing was held an hour late.

His lawyer Friedrich Fülscher, who was also at the scene, filed a criminal complaint for the incident.

In the summer, the Braunschweig prosecutor announced that Christian B. was being investigated for the disappearance and murder of Madeleine McCann. The then 3-year-old girl disappeared in May 2007 from a vacation home in Praia da Luz, Portugal. At that time Christian B. lived in Portugal. A cell phone number assigned to him was registered on a cell phone network in Praia da Luz shortly before the crime. However, the evidence in the Madeleine McCann case is still not sufficient for an arrest warrant against Christian B., who has had multiple criminal records for child abuse.
