The Minister of Education, Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD), announces that the country is investing 45 million euros in the protection of the crown.
With 25 million euros, around 5,000 educational employees will be hired at a rate of 450 euros for six months. According to Tonne, all schools in Lower Saxony have at least one additional employee. For protection against infections, the “hardware”, as Tonne said, there is available 20 million euros. Protective plexiglass walls, interchangeable masks, if necessary FFP2 masks for teachers and, in special circumstances, air filters are available.
Ton: schools don’t have “super spreader events”
Tonne emphasized again that schools are not so-called blockbuster events. After consulting the health authorities, there is no indication of this. Cases of infection in schools were generally brought in from abroad. Currently, eleven schools are closed, 331 institutions work in teaching groups, 333 schools pursue scenario B, that is, they teach in an alternative model. These numbers have slightly decreased compared to the previous week. “80 percent of schools are not affected today,” Tonne said. A nationwide switch to scenario B is not an option.
GEW and the association of school principals are seeing tons on the fingers
As school employee representatives, Laura Pooth and Andrea Kunkel participated in the Corona Crisis Team press conference. Pooth, president of the science and education union (GEW), said this was not an alliance with the state government. Say hello to measurements. “But that can only be a first step. The financial requirements are much higher,” Pooth said. “Schools are the anchor of the cohesion of society.” The president of the Lower Saxony school management association Kunkel said it was important for the school leadership to make decisions about the personnel on site. “We therefore expressly welcome the freedom of school administrators to distribute financial resources and, in particular, an expedited procedure for hiring staff.” The further process will be followed constructively and critically.
