In view of the continuing high number of infections, the Hamburg Senate wants to toughen its ordinance to contain the corona pandemic. At a press conference today, the Senate will present how the latest agreement between the federal and state governments on corona measures will be implemented in Hamburg. NDR.de will broadcast them around 3pm via live stream.

As agreed by the federal and state governments on Tuesday, the lockdown will run for three weeks until January 31. Contact options will be further restricted: instead of five people from two households, members of one household should only be able to meet one person from another household. “There is no basis for relaxation. On the contrary, we have to take some additional measures,” Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) said on Tuesday after the prime minister’s consultations with the chancellor. According to the social services authority, the new measures in Hamburg will take effect from January 11.

Range of motion is restricted from an incidence of 200

The heads of government also agreed that at a corona hotspot with a seven-day incidence of more than 200 new infections per 100,000 residents, the range of movement should be restricted to 15 kilometers around the place of residence. Tschentscher emphasized that he hoped this value would not be achieved in Hamburg. On Tuesday, the seven-day incidence was 138.4 according to calculations by the social services agency. However, to create uniform regulation at the national level, the information from the Robert Koch Institute will be binding, the mayor said. Consequently, Tuesday’s value was 101.9.

Compulsory school attendance will remain suspended until the end of January, Tschentscher said. “Children should be cared for at home whenever possible.” With distance learning, the infection process must be delayed. In the context of restrictions on schools and daycare centers, the federal and state governments have also agreed to double the number of children’s sick days for parents this year.

The previous blockade, which has been in force since December 16 and affects many companies, but also schools and daycare centers, continues to apply. Restaurants, cultural and leisure facilities had to close several weeks before. The objective of the measures is to avoid contact between people and thus avoid infection by the coronavirus. The federal and state governments had initially decided on the strict lockdown before January 10.
