After the evacuation of the Lipa refugee camp in Bosnia before Christmas, 1,300 former residents wait in the snow and cold. According to the aides, his situation and that of 2,000 other people are life threatening.
The former residents of the Lipa Bosnian refugee camp are, according to the assessment of the aid organization Care, in a critical situation.
The closure of the camp the day before Christmas was “inhumane,” said Balkans regional care director Sumka Bucan.
3300 people without protection
As a result, 1,300 people without heating and a roof over their heads, and like 2,000 others who lived outside anyway, were exposed to heavy snow and cold without protection. Some people stayed in the snow with sandals, criticized Bucan.
Then ARD-The information is distributed only by the Bosnian Red Cross and some assistants, blankets and a hot meal a day. From circles of aid organizations it is said that people should be taken to other camps by bus, but where it is not clear, three other camps in the region are overcrowded.
Aid Bucan said Camp Lipa “was not a perfect place to stay” but offered minimal protection from wind, rain and snow. “
The great challenge posed by the growing number of migrants in Bosnia should not mean that “people seeking help cannot seek protection from the freezing cold,” the aide warned.
Care demands “help to save lives”
Local and European authorities must provide adequate protection for stranded people. “Care requires unconditional help that saves lives,” Bucan said. The affected canton Una Sana is right on the border with Croatia and therefore with the European Union.
