Leipzig – Fenced demo areas, admission controls, stiff penalties for infractions! Ahead of Saturday’s renewed demonstration in Leipzig, two weeks after the chaos surrounding the large “Querdenker” demonstration, the city and the police have announced a decisive crackdown.
The city has received seven meeting registrations, one of them with 500 participants from the “lateral thinker” background, said city spokesman Matthias Hasberg. However, it is ruled out that the critics of the Crown government and the despisers of the masks will meet again on Augustusplatz.
Hasberg: “The venue is already taken by a ‘Leipzig’ demonstration.” Where the “lateral thinkers” are allowed to go will be decided today.
The city also announced that it would demarcate individual demonstration areas with chain-link fences and control the maximum number of 1000 people allowed at the entrance in accordance with the Corona Protection Ordinance.
People who later find themselves in front of the cordon can be fined 150 euros, unannounced rallies even cost 5000 euros. City spokesman Hasberg said: “Both we and the police are determined to rigorously punish such violations.”
Meanwhile, the authorities are concerned that there may be violent clashes on Saturday between the extremist left scene and parts of the “side thinkers” protesters.
