Karl Lauterbach, an SPD health expert, initially does not expect the crown’s situation to improve. “Now we will have the worst three months of the entire pandemic with a high number of infections and deaths ahead,” he told the “Rheinische Post” (Saturday).
Starting in April, however, a light can be seen at the end of the tunnel due to a combination of better weather and more available vaccine. When a largely normal life becomes possible again, according to Lauterbach, it depends on approval of the vaccine from the University of Oxford and the British-Swedish company Astrazeneca.
The SPD politician sees clear deficits in the previous vaccination strategy. It is very unfortunate that Europe has bought so little of the American vaccine from Moderna.

“From the beginning it was clear that the Moderna vaccine had a very strong effect and could be used in general practitioner practices,” Lauterbach said.
Because so little has been asked for, the Moderna vaccine probably won’t play a role even if it is approved soon. In addition, it could already be further if Germany itself or the EU had requested more doses of the already approved vaccine from the Mainz company Biontech from the beginning, according to Lauterbach.
