In addition to Lauenburg, residents of Lanze, Buchhorst, Hohnstorf (Elbe), Bleckede, Echem and Boizenburg are asked not to open windows and doors and to turn off ventilation and air conditioning systems.

In the morning, one of the two chemical towers had been burned to its full extent. According to the control center, there were also minor explosions. “It is a building that is around 40 meters high. Therefore, it is difficult to enter there with water cannons,” said Lars Heuer, chief of operations for the Lauenburg volunteer fire brigade, during the firefighting in the morning.
However, with the help of three revolving stairs, the fire could have been prevented from spreading further. With thermal imaging drones, emergency services are still looking for embers.

Up to 200 firefighters and several dangerous goods trains are on site. West Mecklenburg firefighters are also involved in the firefighting work. Vehicles were also requested from the Hamburg fire department. A man was injured in the fire. According to the fire brigade, about 20 companies in the area had to be evacuated.
