He told WELT: “I see that the big concerns have been confirmed. This is the third wave caused by much more contagious Corona variants. ” Recently, significantly more new infections were reported. A large proportion of the population has not yet been immunized with a vaccine, so the “infection process is highly dependent” on mobility and contacts. Because the vaccination rate could hardly be increased, only the increase in “voluntary and mandatory tests” could help control the number of infections.
Regarding the situation in his federal state, the CDU politician said: “In Saxony, in addition to looking at the incidence, we also have a good forecast of hospital bed occupancy. The situation in hospitals is currently relaxed ”. For this reason, there is currently the possibility of admitting patients from the Czech Republic.
According to Kretschmer, districts and municipalities are in the process of establishing a large number of municipal test centers. He also discussed efforts to control the infection rate in the Vogtland hotspot (current seven-day incidence: 252.7). There they are trying to create “safe contacts” or “safer contacts” with the help of tests. To do this, 40,000 people have been tested in the last twelve days. In this way, 360 people could be informed that they were infected with Corona.
“Germany is going too far,” Kretschmer had said.
Kretschmer had criticized the decisions of the federal-state conference immediately after the meeting. “I think Germany is opening up too fast and too far,” Kretschmer said on Thursday. The infections continued to increase “although the blockade is still in force.”
There is an agreement on this point within the state government of Saxony. “As much as we would like to see a relaxation, of course we are concerned that the situation could go away again,” Kretschmer said. If the basic contact avoidance system was abandoned, other safety measures would have to be taken.
