The ban came after most deaths from the virus occurred among people over the age of 70, many of whom lived in nursing homes.

Long-term waiver of restrictions
Sweden has followed a less restrictive path than most other European countries since the beginning of the crisis. Therefore, critics accused the authorities of endangering human lives with their strategy. However, for a long time the government refrained from imposing restrictions and instead made recommendations to citizens.
No mask requirement
In response to the growing number of new infections, the government imposed binding restrictions for the first time in mid-November, including public gatherings and the sale of alcohol. However, meetings in private apartments are not restricted by regulation and there are no mask requirements.
Since the start of the pandemic, nearly 350,000 corona infections and around 7,800 deaths have been recorded in Sweden. In the last week alone, 500 deaths related to Covid-19 were recorded.
