Kai Havertz will move from Bundesliga Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea. The Premier League club and Bayer announced it in the evening. Havertz signed a five-year contract at Chelsea.

According to English media reports, Leverkusen will receive around 80 million euros in transfer for the 21-year-old, while others report 70 million euros. In addition, there are bonus payments, which can increase the sum. Apparently Bayer initially asked for a transfer fee of 100 million euros.

The striker, considered one of the greatest talents in football, left the national team early on Friday to get a medical check-up for the 2012 Champions League winners. Havertz replaces his future teammate and colleague of the national team Timo Werner as the most expensive German footballer in just a few weeks. Werner switched from RB Leipzig to Chelsea in early July thanks to a € 53 million buyout clause. Havertz is not a Bundesliga turntable. The transfer of Ousmane Dembélé to FC Barcelona earned Borussia Dortmund some 135 million euros three years ago.

“I’ve been here for so long and I’ve experienced wonderful things with so many people. You don’t change that just by changing your jersey,” Havertz said. “Kai played for us for ten years, four of them on our licensed team. During this time he became a national player for us and has already achieved outstanding results despite his youth,” said Bayer Sporting Director Rudi Völler. Havertz “is already world class, without a doubt one of the best who have played for Bayer.”

Havertz scored 46 goals and had 31 assists in 150 games for Leverkusen. Read more about his unusual tactical profile here.
