Johnny Depp loses to the “Sun”

American actor Johnny Depp has lost his legal battle against the tabloid “Sun”. That was decided by the High Court of London. The 57-year-old Hollywood star had sued the publisher over an article claiming that he had physically abused his ex-wife Amber Heard, including being referred to as a “bully woman.”

The judge in charge decided that the information contained in the text was “essentially true”. That’s why Depp’s lawsuit was dismissed.

The celebrity High Court trial had attracted worldwide attention in July. For weeks, Depp and his ex-wife, 23 years his junior, painted the picture of a deeply destructive relationship.

The actress testified in court that she was terrified of Depp: he often yelled at her, kicked her, and even choked her. Depp, in turn, said that his ex-wife was also violent. His attorney even ended up calling Heard a “compulsive liar.” It was completely indisputable in the process: Depp repeatedly suffered from his addiction to drugs and alcohol. He himself admitted it too.

Heard’s attorney said the decision “was not a surprise” to someone who followed the trial. “We will be producing more evidence in the United States very soon,” he said. Because also in the US Depp has filed a defamation lawsuit against Heard over the accusations. In a “Washington Post” article, he reported on his experiences of violence, but without naming Depp.

He and Heard met while filming The Rum Diary. The couple separated in 2016 after just 15 months of marriage and then waged a month-long war of roses. In 2017 the two actors divorced. Depp paid his ex-wife a $ 7 million settlement that the actress donated to charity.
