So far, Ardern has ruled in a coalition of Labor, the Greens and the small populist First New Zealand party, which is known for its anti-immigrant positions.

The conservative National Party crashed in the elections. From 2008 to 2017, the party was continuously part of the government, and after 2017 it was the largest parliamentary group with 56 seats, albeit as an opposition party. This time there are probably only 35 left.

Ardern is 40 years old and has been in office since 2017. Although his country does not even have five million inhabitants, he made a name for himself internationally. This is mainly due to its good crisis management, for example, in view of the terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch a year and a half ago.
