Isn’t Muranka Corona positive after all? Poland romps at first

The Four Hills tournament got off to a rocky start. This is not only due to bad weather in qualifying, but also to the exclusion of the Polish team related to Corona. Now there could be a dramatic change.

Due to the positive corona test of the Polish ski jumper Klemens Muranka, the entire Polish team is from Four Hills tournament start excluded. Sports director and ski jumping legend Adam Malysz could hardly believe the result: “Just two days ago we had a test at home in Nowy Targ, all the results were negative. It’s strange.”

But he was unable to do anything about the authorities’ decision. The other jumpers on his team, including defending champions Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch, were close contacts. “We are very sorry for this decision, but the health department had no choice to protect the other athletes,” said Florian Stern, secretary general at the inaugural competition in Oberstdorf.

The Minister of Education wants to demand the resumption

But now the story is apparently taking a new turn. Because Muranka’s second test was negative. Team doctor Aleksander Wisniarski confirmed this to Polish media “Przegląd Sportowy” on Monday night. “Sport.pl” reports that the team should have received the result shortly after 6 pm.

Polish Culture Minister Piotr Glinski wrote on Twitter that he was in contact with the Polish Ski Jumping Association and that he would ask that his own ski jumpers resume on Tuesday morning.

The association also announced that they would also go to court. “Poland was not allowed to participate in qualifying due to a laboratory error,” criticized a spokesperson. General Secretary Jan Winkiel described the situation as “absurd”.

Sorting results could be canceled

The Poles did a third test on Monday night. The result is expected Tuesday morning and should secure the decision. If the test of Murankas or one of the other jumpers is positive, the Poles are excluded. However, if the result is negative, the tour organizers probably already have a plan.

As reported by “Eurosport.pl”, the result of the Qualification on Monday canceled and repeated on the Tuesday before the actual jump (starting at 4:30 pm in the live ticker on t-online) – with the Polish athletes. Another scenario would be a classification with 57 jump shots, the 50 classified plus the seven Poles. Then there would be no leap of grace.
