The number of proven corona cases in Germany is increasing rapidly: the Robert Koch Institute has reported more than 11,000 new infections for the second day in a row. Exactly 11,242 new cases were added in 24 hours, he said. A record number of 11,287 new infections was only recorded on Thursday.
In view of the increasing number of infections, the first voices warn of a second blockage. If more than 20,000 people are infected per day, it is necessary, said world medical president Ulrich Montgomery of the “Rheinische Post.” Because from this threshold the situation gets out of control.
Health authorities lack personnel and technology
However, more and more health authorities are reaching their limits. At the moment, no politician is giving a specific number. But Michael Müller, Berlin’s ruling mayor and chairman of the Prime Minister’s Conference, warned ZDF that there was no room for improvement in the measures. Faced with the dramatic consequences of the far-reaching exit restrictions, he did not want to lose hope “that we can avoid this blockade with our measures and also with our discipline and personal responsibility,” said the SPD politician. “But I have to admit: it can no longer be ruled out.”
Uniform procedure is required at the national level
The Prime Minister of Bavaria, Markus Söder, spoke in ZDF of an exponential increase in the number of cases. “I think this will be an exciting time for all of us, that it will be an important starting point,” said the CSU politician. “Personally, I think we can do this if we work together for it and if we don’t allow ourselves to react until the last minute and then react with more action.”
A second blockade must be avoided at all costs: Müller and Söder agree with Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans.
