Incidence increases slightly
RKI reports fewer cases than a week ago
According to data from the Robert Koch Institute, the number of new corona infections and deaths has slightly decreased compared to the previous weeks. The seven-day incidence, on the other hand, is increasing slightly, and the seven-day R-value is also above the crucial one mark.
German health authorities reported 9,557 corona cases to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in one day. In addition, 300 new deaths were recorded in 24 hours. This is evident in the RKI figures. Exactly a week ago, the RKI had recorded 9,762 new infections and 369 new deaths in one day. The data reflects the status of the RKI dashboard since 3.11 am, subsequent changes or additions to the RKI are possible. According to the RKI, the number of new infections reported in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (incidence of seven days) was 65.6 in the whole country in the morning and, therefore, compared to the previous day (65.4 ) and on Saturday of last week (63.8) a. a little bit higher.
The number of new infections in Germany dropped significantly for weeks in January and February. However, it has recently stalled, which could also be due to the spread of more contagious variants. Four weeks ago, on January 6, the incidence had been 77. Its previous peak was reached on December 22 at 197.6. On January 14, the peak of 1,244 recently reported deaths was reached. Among new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value was reached on December 18 at 33,777, but it contained 3,500 late reports.
The RKI has counted 2,492,079 infections detected with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected. The RKI stated that the number of people recovered was around 2,299,400. The total number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection increased to 71,804.
R value increased above 1
According to RKI’s situation report on Friday night, the seven-day R-value nationwide was 1.04 (previous day 0.99). This means that 100 infected people infect 104 more people. The value represents the onset of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides; if it is constantly higher, the number of cases increases.
Note: The RKI figures generally deviate slightly from the case data that ntv.de reports daily at night. The ntv.de data team has direct access to federal state registration figures published by ministries and local authorities. The RKI, on the other hand, is linked to legally prescribed reporting channels, which can lead to a delay.
In addition, the respective daily values map different recording periods: the ntv assessment collects the country information published at night and uses it to calculate a daily status of the number of reported cases, which is generally published starting at 8 pm in ahead. The RKI system of record, on the other hand, takes into account incoming reports until midnight, and the current status of the data is announced the next morning.
