Bavarian Prime Minister Söder has demanded a fine of 250 euros per uniform nationwide for those who reject face masks in the fight against the corona pandemic. He and other prime ministers urged citizens to be more vigilant.

In view of the growing number of corona infections in Germany, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder has spoken out in favor of tougher sanctions across the country for violations of pandemic rules. In several interviews, the CSU chief demanded national uniform fines of 250 euros for ignoring the mask requirement. This standard rate already applies in Bavaria.

“It’s getting dangerous,” said Söder of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. The mask is the most effective means. “It’s five minutes to twelve. You can’t ignore the situation anymore,” he told “Bild am Sonntag.”

Warning of uncontrolled spread of the virus

Corona is as dangerous as in spring. “And if we don’t change course quickly now, the same development as in France or Spain can occur with explosive numbers and cases that are no longer manageable,” warned the CSU leader.

Quick action is needed for everyone: “An earlier curfew and no larger parties and celebrations for a certain period of time.” The Bavarian head of government told the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”: “The constant minimization of the challenge unfortunately has an effect. This has reduced the patience and willingness of the population to participate.”

Appeal to the youngest

The Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, also warned in “Bild am Sonntag”: “I hope that citizens no longer do everything that they are allowed to do out of a sense of responsibility.” The green politician added: “It is not necessary to have a party at home or in a restaurant.” The country could not afford another blockade. “That’s why we are tightening the bolts elsewhere. You don’t have to party, work and learn.”

Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer also appealed to the young generation in the “Welt am Sonntag”: “Now we do not need full parties, but precautionary measures and controls.” The CDU politician defended stricter rules: “Now we need certain instruments to control the situation. We want to preserve to a great extent our social and economic life,” he said.

Stricter rules in big cities

In Germany, the number of new infections has increased significantly recently. Several cities have exceeded the limit of 50 new corona infections per 100,000 residents in seven days.

For example, 58.2 cases of corona were recorded per 100,000 inhabitants in Berlin in the last seven days, according to the latest corona situation report from the health administration. The capital exceeded the warning value for the first time on Thursday. As of yesterday, restaurants, bars, pubs and most of the shops in the capital must be closed from 23:00 to 6:00. For private meetings in closed rooms, a maximum of ten people is allowed to meet. Only five people can meet outside from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

There have also been many new infections recently in Hamburg: with 38.8 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a week, the city was still below the 50 limit yesterday. In public buildings and restaurants, mouth and nose protection should be worn, said Social Senator Melanie Leonhard. In public places with a large crowd, as well as at demonstrations and important events, a mask will also be applied.
