“I’m not scared”
Biden insists on the Capitol Terrace for the oath

The storm on the Capitol casts its shadow. But despite the new mobilizations of Trump supporters, the future president wants to take the oath in the open air. Biden chooses a conciliatory motto for the celebration, which will take place without the outgoing president.

The future president of the United States, Joe Biden, can look forward to his inauguration without any security problems despite the violent assault on the United States Capitol last Wednesday. “I’m not afraid to take the oath outside,” Biden responded to a question from reporters in Wilmington, Delaware. The Democrat added: “I think it is crucial that there is a real and serious approach that these people who have been involved in the riots, threatened people’s lives, defaced public property, caused great damage, they will be held responsible.”

Biden’s inauguration ceremony is scheduled for January 20. The swearing-in ceremony is traditionally held on the west terrace of the Capitol. Last week, a crowd of supporters of incumbent Donald Trump stormed the parliament building and also gained access to the bleachers that had already been installed for Biden’s inauguration. Meanwhile, security precautions at the Capitol have been strengthened, including a two-meter-high metal fence. Thousands of National Guard members from different states are also supposed to support local security forces in the US capital.

At the inauguration, the Secret Service in charge of protecting the president is in charge of security measures. A few days ago, the agency announced that it has been working tirelessly with partner agencies for a year to be prepared for all eventualities in order to ensure safety during the inauguration.

Obama, Clinton, George W. Bush there

Biden wants to put the celebration under the slogan “America.” As announced by the organizing committee, the president-elect will appear at the ceremony along with former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. The motto is also related to the assault on the Capitol. After the inauguration, Biden plans to go to Arlington National Cemetery with Obama, Bush and Clinton to lay a wreath at the grave of the unknown soldier.

Those attending the ceremony will also include future Vice President Kamala Harris and outgoing Vice President Mike Pence. Trump, on the other hand, does not want to participate because he does not recognize Biden’s electoral victory. Unlike previous presidential inauguration celebrations, the crowd is not expected to be large. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser urged citizens to stay away from the ceremony due to the Covid-19 pandemic and watch the event online or on television. The number of deaths per crown in the US now stands at 370,000. Biden had the second dose of his coronavirus vaccine administered in front of the cameras at noon.
