The Astrazeneca vaccine has been in the headlines for weeks. A few days ago there were new recommendations for its use. Citizens of at least 60 years of age benefit from this. Lothar Wieler and Steffen Seibert belong to them. The head of RKI and the government spokesman seized the opportunity.

The president of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Lothar Wieler, has been vaccinated against the coronavirus with the Astrazeneca vaccine. “I am pleased and happy to have been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine this morning,” Wieler said in a statement that the RKI tweeted. Next to it was a black and white photo of the vaccination. Government spokesman Steffen Seibert also reports on “Happy Easter” from a 60-year-old man. He was also vaccinated with the vaccine from the British-Swedish manufacturer Astrazeneca in Berlin.

Wieler thanked the employees of the Berlin vaccination hotline and the vaccination center. “With each vaccination the end of the pandemic is approaching,” he emphasized. Seibert thanked everyone at the Tegel Airport Vaccination Center, “who created such a pleasant and positive environment.”

Wieler and Seibert are both 60 years old. In Berlin and many other federal states, people aged 60 and over can now be vaccinated with the Astrazeneca product, although they are actually lower in the vaccination sequence. The background for this is the decision to stop using this vaccine in people under 60 years of age. Previously, cases of cerebral vein thrombosis had occurred in connection with vaccination, especially in younger women.

On Thursday, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier had himself vaccinated at the Bundeswehr hospital in Berlin, also with the Astrazeneca vaccine. “I trust the vaccines approved in Germany,” said the head of state. “Take advantage of opportunities, join in,” the 65-year-old appealed.
