In the US state of Georgia, the race between US President Donald Trump and his challenger Joe Biden was closed: Biden won the state by just 11,779 votes.
According to the Washington Post, Trump pressured the state election official during a phone call. “I want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we have won the state, ”Trump says in a short audio clip of the phone call, which the report said lasted hours. “The people of Georgia are angry, the people of the country are angry. And there’s nothing wrong with saying that you already know they did the math, ”says Trump.
Georgia Elections Officer Brad Raffensperger is also Secretary of State, making him one of Georgia’s highest officials.
Not only is Raffensperger a Republican like Trump, he was one of his early supporters. Raffensperger made sure that the election in the US state was fair and clean and was unimpressed by allegations of fraud.
In the phone call, Raffensperger and his attorney deny Trump’s allegations, according to the Washington Post, and explain that it is based on disproved conspiracy theories.
Trump, in turn, threatens Raffensperger: “You know what you did and don’t report it. It’s a crime. That is a risk for you and for your lawyer ”, that’s why you can hear it on the recording.
Trump also made it public via Twitter that the two spoke on the phone on Saturday. He wrote that he had spoken to Raffensperger about voter fraud in Georgia. The latter was unwilling or unable to answer questions about “votes that fell under the table”, dead voters or destruction of ballots. “He has no idea,” Trump tweeted.
Raffensperger responded: “With all due respect, President Trump, what you say is not true. The truth will come out. “
