Memories of the Inauguration Debate: How Trump’s March of Millions Dipped to Tens of Thousands
The numbers for the “MAGA Million March” were initially heavily inflated by Trump’s team.

Donald Trump continued to claim after his inauguration that he had the most visitors of all time. In the “March of the Million MAGA” in Washington, memories of that time emerge.
It was a memorable debut. When press secretary Sean Spicer first appeared before the press shortly after Donald Trump’s inauguration, he set the tone for the entire presidency. It was the largest number of spectators ever to attend an opening, Spicer yelled at the time in the direction of the media. “Point!” During the Trump supporters’ demonstration, very similar impressions emerge.
The name should be a program: “Million MAGA March” Trump supporters baptized their expression of solidarity, with which they wanted to cheer the loser and question the legitimacy of the elections won by challenger Joe Biden. And Trump’s team also wanted to believe the number of visitors announced. “Incredible! More than a million people were defrauded in the swamp in support of Donald Trump,” cheered current press spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany on Twitter. She alludes to Trump’s announcement that the “swamp” in Washington will be drained.

The president rows back
Surprisingly, by the time his boss joined in the spirited spiel, the number of users had already decreased slightly. “Hundreds of thousands” showed their support, the president said on Twitter. And he repeated his claim about the stolen election. “It will not tolerate the rigged and corrupt election.” Many people can be seen in the retweeted video, but the number seems too small even for hundreds of thousands. In fact, experts estimated that they were closer to thousands or a few tens of thousands of visitors.
Surprisingly, even Trump was rowing further back. “The fake news barely reports that the tens of thousands of people who came to DC have come together organically here and across the country.” the still president complained. He shared a tweet from journalist Mollie Hemmingway, who belongs to the conservative news site “The Federalist.” As a result, the protesters would joke that the media would soon write about a few thousand participants.
On Twitter, McEnany’s initial hype was, unsurprisingly, a source of derision. “You could also claim a billion,” smiled one user in response to the press officer. “Now I understand how Trump can be considered a billionaire,” blasphemed another.
