How a taboo problem grows

[ad_1]

Millions of women around the world suffer a brutal ritual: genital mutilation. The problem is also growing in this country and with it the danger for girls.

Shadia Abdelmoneim was circumcised at the age of 29. The trauma that unleashed this act haunts the 55-year-old to this day. “It completely destroyed his life,” he told t-online in the video. Now, the Sudanese woman is fighting against the genital mutilation of young women and girls in Germany.

Between 3,000 and 20,000 girls under the age of 18 are at risk in this country. An investigation by t-online revealed that since 2014 only four cases of attempted or completed genital mutilation have been identified. The authorities often have little chance of convicting offenders.

In which federal states have been determined so far, what massive physical complaints and trauma a circumcision in girls can trigger, and what offers of help are available in Germany for those affected, you can see in the video above. Alternatively, you may find that Video here.
