Holidays 2021: longer holidays thanks to smart planning

[ad_1]

About half of the public holidays in Germany in 2021 fall on the weekend. However, there will also be opportunities in the coming year to turn vacation days into lots of days off. An overview.

May 1: Saturday. German Unity Day and Reformation Day: Sundays. And Christmas also falls on a weekend next year. However, there are still some opportunities for employees to efficiently extend their free time in 2021.

Across Germany, 18 days of vacation become 39 days off, in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria you can get up to 52 days off with 22 days of vacation. An overview.

New year and wise men

The first holiday of the year, January 1, falls on a Friday. If the long weekend at the beginning of the year is not enough for you, you can take five days off the following week and have ten days off at a time, including weekends.

In Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Saxony-Anhalt, only four days of vacation need to be presented instead of five. On Wednesday, January 6, the Feast of the Three Kings is celebrated.

Easter

Easter is traditionally ideal for a long spring break, at least for those who don’t shy away from school holidays. Good Friday falls on April 2, 2021 and Easter Monday is April 5. With four days of vacation before Good Friday and after Easter Monday, the free time doubles to a total of 16 days at a time (March 27 to April 11).

If you don’t want to invest eight days of your vacation account in early April, you can only take the week after Easter and turn four vacation days into ten days off in a row.

Ascension Day and Pentecost

The week around Ascension Day on May 13 can easily be filled with vacation days. A four-day weekend is possible, or alternatively even nine days off in a row.

Even after the long Pentecost weekend with Pentecost Monday on May 24, employees can get a total of nine days off with four additional vacation days.

If you also take the entire workweek between the popular May holidays, you get a total of 13 days of 23-day free time (May 8-30).

Corpus Christi

If you live in the right area, you can keep this long vacation period even in the week after Pentecost, or you can relax again for a long weekend. The reason for this is Corpus Christi: the holiday falls on Thursday, June 3, and thus offers more opportunities for long transitional days.

However, it is only a public holiday in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, as well as in some parts of Saxony and Thuringia.

By the way, those who present their holidays from May 14 to June 4 can combine Ascension Day and Pentecost with Corpus Christi in the best possible way, and achieve a 25-day vacation using 14 vacation days.

All Saints

In the fall, the workers can’t wait for many holidays: Assumption Day, German Unity Day, and Reformation Day every fall on Sunday.

In Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, after all, there is a long weekend on All Saints’ Day on November 1, a Monday. If you want to take the next four days off, you can turn it into nine days of vacation.

Even in Thuringia (World Children’s Day on September 20) and Saxony (Day of Repentance and Prayer on November 17) a longer autumn holiday with transition days is still possible.
