In contract poker with David Alaba, Honorary Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeneß sees the Austrian footballer’s adviser as the biggest problem. In the end, he hopes the 29-year-old will prevail and make the decision about his future himself.
Uli Hoeneß speaks plain language again: the honorary president of FC Bayern has harshly criticized his adviser Pini Zahavi in the ongoing poker with defense chief David Alaba. “David has a greedy piranha as an advisor. His father, who I like very much, is also very influenced by him,” Hoeneß said in a “one-two” on Sport1. “The garbage the consultant says is incredible. He is asking for a double-digit million sum just for the signature. The 68-year-old hopes “that David will be able to prevail. Now he is 29 years old and ultimately he has to decide for himself. It is about money. He is already at the best club in the world,” Hoeneß said. According to “Kicker”, Zahavi has demanded an annual fee of 25 million euros for his client Alaba. Alaba would be the top winner in the triple winner, even before striker Robert Lewandowski, captain Manuel Neuer, whose contract extensions were accompanied by strange nuances and allegations of greed last season, or Thomas Müller. Bayern are reportedly offering more than 15 million bonuses. Hoeneß also revealed for the first time that Alaba should receive a four- or five-year contract.
BVB is “stronger than last year”
In the negotiations so far, “no result has been reached,” Hoeneß said: “We all want nothing else to stay.” The Austrian’s contract runs until 2021. Zahavi is now trying, Hoeneß suspected, to release Alaba “for free next year. That would be the worst case, we have to avoid it.”
The national player started preparation at Bayern last week. CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and CEO Oliver Kahn had recently been “very optimistic” that Alaba would expand in Munich. With Hansi Flick, the former full-back has become a renowned head of defense. The future of Thiago and Javi Martínez remains open with the record champions.
On the show, Hoeneß also praised Borussia Dortmund. He sees the BVB “stronger than last year”. The club has kept its “young and very talented” players like Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho, “now they are a year older,” Hoeneß said. A few weeks ago, Hoeneß had criticized Borussia and its transfer policy, and provoked angry reactions.
