Hannover opponents today protest against the crown protection measures in the Opera Square. The protest is organized by the “lateral thinking initiative”.
The police have put up barriers at all entrances to Opernplatz. This is reported by NDR 1 Lower Saxony. Officials check whether passers-by are wearing face and nasal masks, for example, one of the requirements of the demonstration. So far only a few dozen participants have made it to the closed square in the center of Hannover. The police are on the scene with a large number. “It is important to us that all officers who are on duty go home healthy,” a spokesman said.

No incident so far
A police spokesman said there were no major incidents until the start of the demonstration. Police had spoken in advance of up to 900 people who were expected to attend the protests today. Even for a counter-demonstration not far from Opernplatz on the stock exchange, significantly fewer than the announced 600 people have gathered so far. All other counter-demonstrations were canceled by the organizers, according to police.
The last rallies broke up
At the national level, people are demonstrating in “lateral thinking” protests against the Crown’s requirements, also this weekend in Leipzig, Bochum and Berlin, among others. In past protests, conspiracy theorists and right-wing extremists have mixed with protesters. The rallies ended prematurely on several occasions because the participants did not meet the requirements such as mask and minimum distance requirements.
